Prediction #1: Your CEO is REALLY excited about ChatGPT.

Prediction #2: They want the marketing team to do “something” with it to generate more sales pipeline.

How’d I do? 🧙🔮

Okay, so I’m admittedly no Nostradomus… but I think we can all agree that this conversational AI thing is kind of a big deal.

And most marketers are trying to figure out what to do with it to get better results in less time.

Recommendation: start with content. If there’s one thing tools like ChatGPT are built for, it’s that.

And you can get started with these 3 powerful AI prompts designed to take your content game to the next level.

Ready to learn? Fire up ChatGPT, BARD or your other AI tool of choice and let’s dig in.

Prompt #1: The “prompt creator”

Let’s start with the most “meta” prompt ever.

Yes, that’s right… you can ask ChatGPT to write your prompts for you.

This will help you make the perfect prompt for whatever goal you have, content marketing related or otherwise.

Here’s the prompt:

I want you to become my Prompt Creator. Your goal is to help me craft the best possible prompt for my needs. The prompt will be used by you, ChatGPT. You will follow the following process:

1) Your first response will be to ask me what the prompt should be about. I will provide my answer, but we will need to improve it through continual iterations by going through the next steps.

2) Based on my input, you will generate 3 sections. a) Revised prompt (provide your rewritten prompt. it should be clear, concise, and easily understood by you), b) Suggestions (provide suggestions on what details to include in the prompt to improve it), and c) Questions (ask any relevant questions pertaining to what additional information is needed from me to improve the prompt).

3) The prompt you provide should be in the form of a request made by me, to be performed by ChatGPT.

4) We will continue this iterative process with me providing additional information to you and you updating the prompt in the Revised prompt section until it’s complete.

Once you input this prompt, ChatGPT will reply to kick off the prompt development process.

Here’s an example of how it plays out from here. Say you reply to ChatGPT with:

I want to create a blog post about how to use lead routing and scheduling software to improve conversion rates of my paid ads to sales opportunities in CRM.

Here’s how ChatGPT responds:

You then answer ChatGPT’s questions, which gives you a revised prompt:

Continue in this fashion until you’ve reached your desired level of prompt refinement!

Prompt #2: The “brainstormer”

Stuck on what content topics to write for your blog or social media?

Or maybe you’re looking to find new, relevant audiences to write for to expand your reach.

Before you wrangle your colleagues into a Zoom room for an (expensive) meeting…

Try the “brainstormer” prompt. Use this to have a 1:1 ideation session with the OpenAI brain. 🧠

Here’s the prompt:

I am an AI-powered brainstorming partner designed to help users generate creative ideas effortlessly and effectively. By leveraging advanced natural language processing techniques, machine learning algorithms, and an extensive knowledge base, I can understand the user’s requirements and provide a wealth of innovative ideas and suggestions tailored to their specific needs. I can assist users in various fields, such as product development, marketing campaigns, content creation, problem-solving, and more. Actively engaging in a conversational manner, I ask probing questions and offer fresh perspectives to stimulate the user’s thought process and inspire creative thinking. I analyze the user’s input and identify patterns, trends, and connections, leading to the generation of unique and out-of-the-box ideas. I am also capable of drawing from a wide range of resources, such as case studies, industry news, and examples of best practices, to provide users with relevant and practical ideas that can be implemented in their projects or tasks. In addition to generating ideas, I also offer organizational features, such as categorizing and prioritizing ideas, creating mind maps, and setting up action plans. This helps users maintain a clear overview of their brainstorming session and ensures that they can easily transition from ideation to implementation. I have a user-friendly interface, allowing users to seamlessly interact with me and navigate through the brainstorming process. I also feature the ability to collaborate with multiple users, enabling teams to collectively brainstorm and share ideas in real-time. By offering an interactive and dynamic brainstorming experience, [what you need brainstormed]

Let’s say in the “what you need brainstormed input” you write,

“help me figure out what blog posts our B2B SaaS company should write next quarter.”

ChatGPT will provide you with a list of ten initial topic ideas…

As well as questions to help you further refine the ideas list.

Your answers to these questions will output a content calendar specific to the topics and goals you highlight in your response:

It also provides additional tips to leverage the content to achieve your stated goal:

Now, if you want ChatGPT to brainstorm additional content topics for you, simply ask it to do the same thing but for a different topic.

Continue until you’ve got all the content for your quarter planned & ready to write!

Then repeat the same process for all of your content marketing needs & challenges. 😉

Prompt #3: The blog post “expander”

What’s one of the best ways to get more organic traffic to your website?

Add (relevant) content to your existing blog posts to reach more people searching for terms around the blog post topic on Google.

The trouble is, it can often be hard to figure out what content to add that’s both relevant to users and will help it get found by search engines.

Enter the blog post “expander” prompt. 💪

This prompt gives you fresh topic ideas, addresses any deficiencies in your content, and recommends videos and other content formats you can create with your blog post.

The prompt has 2 inputs:

[INSERT KEYWORD] - The main term you’re optimizing the page for so people will find you on Google when searching for that topic. In SEO parlance, we call this the “primary keyword”.

[PASTE ENTIRE BLOG ARTICLE HERE] - Pretty self explanatory. Just plop the whole text of the post right in there.

Okay, ready? Here’s the prompt:

My current blog post about [INSERT KEYWORD] is below. I want to add more detail to this blog post so it is more useful for my readers. What information should I cover in more detail? Give me actionable suggestions for improving the content in terms of search intent for my targeted keyword. Suggest 10 long-tail keywords for this blog post. Suggest 5 LSI keywords. Suggest 5 videos I can create that would enhance this blog article. Suggest 5 blog posts I can write in addition to this blog post that will cover a separate but related topic.

Current [INSERT KEYWORD] Blog Article:

[PASTE ENTIRE BLOG ARTICLE HERE]

For this example, I’ll use the article I wrote a couple months ago on how to migrate to Google Analytics 4. My primary keyword is “Google Analytics 4 migration”.

Here’s a breakdown of the output…

First, ChatGPT gives me 5 more areas where I can add additional details to improve the post:

Next, it provides 10 “long-tail” keywords. These are keywords that reflect more specific terms (with 4+ words) that users are searching for around the topic.

Adding these keywords will allow you to capture search volume around more precise user queries.

Next, ChatGPT provides 5 “LSI” keywords to add to the piece.

LSI stands for “Latent Semantic Indexing”. In plain English, it means that the search engines see these terms as being related to your primary keyword by the search engines.

Adding these terms & related content can improve the likelihood that Google will see your content as more relevant to the user. This will help rank it higher in the search engine results.

ChatGPT also spits out 5 video ideas from the blog post. You can create these videos to add “rich media” to your blog post, which helps improve user engagement & potentially rankings.

You can also add these videos to your YouTube channel to drive video views there as well.

Lastly, ChatGPT gives you 5 related blog post ideas. You can use these posts to generate additional organic traffic around your topic. This also allows you to create a topic cluster that helps your site more likely to generate organic traffic for content around that topic area.

Before you apply these recommendations, I recommend reviewing your blog post to see:

  1. Which of these recommendations are most relevant to the actual context & goal of the original content?
  2. What content or keywords do I not currently have on this post? (Use “CMD + F” to search your content)

Then go forth and add new content to unleash a new influx of relevant website visitors.

Bonus #4: “SEO” for ChatGPT

You might have thought about using ChatGPT to improve your SEO…

But have you considered optimizing your content for visibility on ChatGPT?

B2B marketers in communities like Exit Five are already reporting that leads are finding them from ChatGPT queries:

So what are some things you can do to show up in your prospect’s ChatGPT feed?

Here are 3 tips:

Tip #1: Use schema markup

Schema is the language web developers use to send structured data to search engines. This data helps search engines understand the contents of the page and what it’s about.

Websites can categorize things like people, products, places and other “properties” using schema. Google and other search engines especially love to use this data to create their “featured snippets” for things like FAQs, Answers and product highlights.

ChatGPT also loves to crawl and use schema markup for the same types of properties. (That’s a BIG hint.)

While we won’t cover how to implement schema markup here, you can visit Schema.org to get all the details. Check out the vocabulary section to find the relevant markup for your website pages.

Best place to get started? Take those FAQs you created with your conversational AI prompt and mark them up using Google’s FAQ structured data guide.

Tip #2: Make your site usable & accessible

If your website is well organized and accessible, that means both humans and robots can easily navigate it.

Here are 3 ways you can do make that happen for your website as a marketer:

  1. Create an intuitive site structure. That means ensuring you’re building internal links on your website, organizing your headers and other page content, and labeling your metadata (like title and description tags) properly.
  2. Make your site mobile-friendly and accessible. Work with your developer to make sure your site scores well on the Google mobile-friendly test. Also make sure that your site is WCAG compliant for users with disabilities.
  3. Publish an XML sitemap. This one’s a foolproof way to make sure ANY robot crawling your site knows exactly what’s on it & how to access it.

Tip #3: (Simple) content is king

Yes, you should still be making quality content. But make it quotable and skimmable, too.

Consider creating content in digestible formats like short answers, Q&A’s and FAQs. Also, provide answers to closed-ended questions, just like those you would commonly ask ChatGPT.

For example, “what is the best inbound conversion rate optimization tool?”

Otherwise, make sure you’re doing all the classic SEO “stuff” on your content, i.e. including relevant keywords and phrases in your text so that ChatGPT can pick up on it.

Last protip? Try making “conversational” content to align to ChatGPT’s nature. This bodes well for the question & answer format, but also means publishing interviews and transcripts could be an opportunity to “rank” on conversational AI.

Become a content cyborg

Conversational AI tools like ChatGPT and Bard definitely aren’t at the point where they can replace smart content marketers (yet).

But if you use the prompts and tips above, you can take your chops to the next level and become an AI-powered content marketing machine. 🤖
